Back L-R: Padraig Kirby and Sean de Bhulbh, LIT; Carmel Russell, Mary Immaculate College; David Lefevre and James Connor, Epigeum Ltd.; Front L-R: Monika Bukowska, LIT; Liz O’Sullivan and Aoife Geraghty, UL; Jerald Cavanagh, LIT; Brid Foster, LIT and David Babington-Smith, Epigeum Ltd.
The event was held under the auspices of the LNSS - Library Network Support Services - a unique collaboration between the Shannon Consortium libraries; its main focus is to tackle what are arguably the most important issues in Libraries and Librarianship today: Library Staff Development and Information Literacy.
The event featured speakers from libraries and academia who play a major role in the implementation of information literacy initiatives in their own institutions; helping to facilitate the exchange of experience, and identify institutional and national collaboration opportunities with regards to information literacy.
Topics covered at the event varied from Liaison between Academic Departments and libraries; to Designing and embedding information literacy into online and blended learning; and, Building-In rather than Bolting-On; some reflections on better integrating research skills and information literacy activity into postgraduate work.
David Lefevre and David Babington-Smith from Epigeum both made presentations on ways and strategies to implement online training, and in the afternoon led further break-out groups to discuss strategies and experience of implementation.
"Information Literacy and elearning is now firmly embedded within the university culture," says David Babington-Smith. "We have seen a step change in how universities are embracing technology and its exciting to see. We are still in the early days of the eLearning revolution in Higher Education and the LNSS seminar has been an excellent opportunity to share experiences."
