IMS Global Consortium: Epigeum and Durham short-listed for international award

 

Epigeum and the University of Durham have been short-listed for the prestigious Learning Impact 2010 awards in Long Beach, California, hosted by the IMS Global Learning Consortium and California State University. The award is designed to recognize use of technology with the greatest impact worldwide in support of learning.

Epigeum and Durham jointly submitted a presentation on Durham's implementation of Research Skills online, co-developed with 15 other universities and now licensed by 50 institutions across Europe. The nomination follows Durham winning a prestigious UK national award for its research training programme; the Times Higher Education Award for ‘Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers'.

"The IMS consortium sets the international protocols for the inter-operability of elearning content" says David Lefevre, co-founder of Epigeum. "Our collaborative work with Durham and other institutions was hugely aided by the IMS content standards. Distributing these training programmes to 50 institutions may not have been possible without the work of the IMS. Because the standards facilitate collaboration, they also boost use-ability and innovation. We are thrilled to be one of the nominees for the award."

Epigeum and the University of Durham will make a joint presentation in California on the 17th May 2010. "We are delighted that Durham is now receiving international recognition for our use of eLearning in doctoral training," says Dr Lowry McComb, Director of Postgraduate Training at Durham. "Online courses help us reach part-time and distance students who cannot normally attend face-to-face workshops. The quality of the Epigeum courses is very high and this gives us huge confidence that they will be well liked and used by our students".
