Our Team

David Babington-Smith

Co-Founder and CEO

David oversees business administration, business development and marketing for Epigeum. He also works with universities to identify their online training needs and establish new development groups.

David has an MBA from the Imperial College Business School and is also a graduate of Cambridge University.

Before launching Epigeum, he successfully established a number of new social venture programmes in the UK, Asia and Africa including:

  • Habitat For Humanity, Malawi (1992-94) - as National Director, David grew the local affiliate of this US-based not-for-profit into the largest homebuilder, and second largest home financier in Malawi
  • Citylife (1995) - an independent charitable organisation which has raised £35m for inner city regeneration
  • Net2work (2000-05) - an initiative which provides IT skills training to deprived communities in India, Africa and Latin America.

David Lefevre

Co-Founder and Chairman

David Lefevre is responsible for our development approach and the pedagogical design that we use in our courses. He oversees the course development team as well as the technical support team.

David is also Director of the Educational Technology Unit at the Imperial College Business School. The role of the unit is to facilitate the use of learning technology at the School and to advise management, faculty and staff on how technology can best be used to enhance teaching.

David is a qualified teacher who has been using computers in education since 1996. While at the British Council between 1996 and 2001, he worked on a number of high profile e-learning projects and pioneered the use of database driven online language learning materials.

David is currently researching instructional feedback in technology-based instruction as part of his PhD at Imperial College London. He also holds a Postgraduate diploma in language teaching and an MSc in Computer Science from Imperial College. David is a member of the HE Academy and is a regular speaker at eLearning conferences.

James Connor

Senior Web Developer

James oversees the support of Epigeum's technical infrastructure including our learning portals, the library of electronic course content and the website. In addition James leads on the technical development of new courses.

James has worked as a website designer and multimedia developer for the last 7 years. He has produced websites, interactive learning resources, Flash animations, 3D models and video & audio recordings. He also experienced in Virtual Learning Environments and database design and he has created and delivered training sessions on a variety of different software packages.

Nimisha Walji

Operations Manager

Nimisha is responsible for planning and managing the course development process. She handles client management and general project communication.

Nimisha graduated from the University of Bristol with a Masters degree in Computer Science and holds a research Masters in Nanotechnology from Imperial College London. She is currently writing up her PhD thesis in Nanotechnology at Imperial College London. Nimisha has been with Epigeum since January 2009.

Catherine Travers

Senior Editor

Catherine oversees the editorial process, working closely with authors, development groups and other editors to ensure that our courses are of the best possible quality, and in line with our customers’ requirements.

Catherine has a degree in English Literature from the University of Oxford and nine years’ experience in educational and academic publishing. During her career she has worked on materials for a wide range of audiences, from pupils in their early teens to postgraduates.

Wendy Harbottle

Sales Manager

Wendy is responsible for sales and marketing at Epigeum. She manages marketing and communication with Epigeum's expanding range of customers, all aspects of customer care and the sale of courses.

Wendy has an MBA from the Open University Business School, and is also a graduate from the Open University.

Before joining Epigeum Wendy has worked in a variety of senior sales and marketing roles including:

  • Sales and Marketing Director for a national charity which helps disabled and disadvantage people
  • Sales Director for leading consumer exhibitions
  • Group Advertisement manager for 7 regional newspapers

Wendy has brought her passion for education and learning, combined with her sales and marketing skills to Epigeum ensuring their training courses are made available to the widest possible audience.

Dominic Lawrance

Sales Executive

Dominic is involved in the marketing and sales activities of Epigeum from overseeing marketing campaigns to managing customer relations.

Dominic is currently working towards a PhD in biomedical engineering at Imperial College London. He has a BSc and MSc from the University of Warwick and before starting his PhD he worked for the Home Office as a Scientific Officer. Dominic has previous experience in customer relations and marketing through his involvement with the Imperial College Alumni Office where he worked as a fundraiser raising money for the Annual Fund, he has also worked on marketing campaigns for the Imperial College Women in Science, Engineering & Technology Society (WSET) spin-off, Robogals.

Scott Hobbis

Multimedia Designer

Scott designs course graphics and interactive content, oversees design elements for our website, products and marketing.

A graduate in Interactive Multimedia Communications, Scott has worked as an interactive, web and graphic designer for over 10 years. He has produced designs for prestigious and award-winning large scale websites, promotional websites and virtual tours across multiple industry sectors.

Petruta Nila

Accounts Manager

Petruta is in charge of in-house accounts. She prepares bookkeeping and management accounts; performs credit control; and manages customer and supplier accounts.

Since 2001 Petruta has gained a wealth of accounting and business experience in the retail and manufacturing sectors of the UK and her native Romania. She is a student member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), currently studying to become chartered accountant.
