Enhancing Research Impact: It’s here to stay

October 17, 2014

Representatives from over twenty universities attended the Enhancing Research Impact event hosted by Epigeum this week. The event was held to discuss the new collaboration and how universities could get involved. The Enhancing Research Impact programme is designed to help academic staff in understanding – and communicating clearly and accessibly – how their research activity benefits the wider public.

Delegates listened to talks from the Expert Advisor for the collaboration, Professor Sir Robert Lechler, Vice Principal (Health) Kings College London and Epigeum Co-Founder Dr David Lefevre.  Sir Robert discussed the need to embrace impact positively as a permanent feature of academic life. David then discussed the unique partnership approach of Epigeum and the pedagogical approach that we take when devising and creating our programmes in collaboration with universities worldwide.

Sir Robert’s speech ‘Embracing research impact: it’s here to stay’ generated lots of discussion and debate within the audience. Sir Robert was keen to reinforce that researchers need to demonstrate the value of their impact more than ever and that to be successful a university must have a portfolio of varied research activity. He also praised the timeliness of this collaboration and the importance of fostering impact throughout an institution.
