Inspiring news: two of our Tackling Harassment expert panellists appointed to the REC Committee

July 14, 2021

Earlier this month we were delighted to see that two of our expert panellists for our Tackling Harassment: Promoting Cultural Change in Higher Education programme were appointed to the Advance HE Race Equality Charter Committee.

David Richardson, Vice-Chancellor of University of East Anglia, and Kaushika Patel, Pro Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University, have been appointed as Co-Chair and committee member respectively. We’re looking forward to seeing what both David and Kaushika achieve as part of the REC Governance Committee.

The REC provides a framework through which institutions work to identify and self-reflect on institutional and cultural barriers standing in the way of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff and students. The new committee has a wide range of equality, diversity and inclusion skills and lived experience, and will play an instrumental role in ensuring the Charter remains fit for purpose.

Tackling Harassment takes a holistic approach towards supporting universities in tackling harassment and hate. The complementary modules Being an Active Bystander and Responding to Disclosures, combine evidence-based best practices with expert learning design to encourage positive change throughout the whole university community.

This programme complements existing in-person initiatives to provide a comprehensive university-wide approach. It has been reviewed by an expert panel of academics, university staff, students and an accessibility advisor, ensuring that this course is suitable for the whole university community.
