Meet our Team: Tom Pritchard

October 4, 2019

Tom Pritchard is the Lead Designer at Epigeum. He supervises the overall brand and digital design activity, including the visual aesthetics and design of Epigeum’s courses, designing promotional materials, and producing video material for customer information and support. Tom is trained in print and web design, illustration, animation, and 3D modelling. He has a degree in Graphic Design from the University for the Creative Arts, and previously worked for the media department of a charity specialising in training, education, and employment.

What brought you to Epigeum?

I had previously been working as a designer for a social enterprise charity that specialised in providing education, training and apprenticeships for individuals who were ‘Not in Education, Employment, or Training’ (NEET), and found the aspect of using my design skills to help provide education to be rewarding. Epigeum seemed like a great place to progress in that area.

Which parts of your role do you enjoy the most?

I like the fact that my job is varied – sometimes it’s the conceptual stage, working on early ideas for the general look and feel of a course; sometimes it’s more code-based in applying that style to a course using web-design principles; sometimes it’s figurative illustration for comic strips; sometimes it’s more graphic/iconographic image assets. I also like that each course is aimed at a different demographic, with a unique tone of voice and aesthetic. The variety keeps me on my toes and keeps things interesting. I also get a kick out of solving problems, I enjoy working with other departments to produce the outcome they’re looking for, and I work with an awesome team!

What does your workspace say about you?

I try to keep things minimal and simple, but things usually get a bit messy, which is probably a pretty good metaphor for my life in general!

What do you do in your free time?

Playing football is one of my favourite parts of the week, as it’s a great combination of keeping fit and catching up with friends and it’s loads of fun. I occasionally make sculptures out of clay and I love to paint, though I don’t make as much time for it as I should! I like to spend as much time as I can with my nieces and nephew, as they’re just the best.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I cut my own hair… so if it ever looks terrible, now you know why!
